    3D Combine (Windows / macOS / Android)

want make a 3D movie using the technique ofanaglyph, so as to allow viewing of the movie through the classic "glasses"? In that case you can try 3D Combine, a software for Windows and macOS (and Android, in the mobile environment) that allows you to create and edit 3D photos and videos. It supports a wide range of file formats, allows you to convert them in batches and, thanks to the advanced depth tools, allows you to create 3D content starting from 2D photos and videos. It can be used for free for only 15 days: at the end of the trial period you need to purchase one of the available licenses, starting at 20 dollars.

To download 3D Combine on your computer, connect to the program's website and press the button Download placed under the icon that represents the operating system installed on your PC (eg. Windows 64 bits to install it on a 64bit version of Windows). At the time of writing, the trial version for Mac appears to be somewhat limited as it does not allow you to transform videos into 3D.

When the download is complete, open the program installation package and follow the wizard to complete the setup: su Windows, open the file .exe appena scaricato, pigia sul pulsating Yes, then put the check mark on the item I accept the agreement, award your bottone Next four times in a row and then on install e Finish. Since the software requires the use of the plugin to work properly on Windows Microsoft Visual C ++, install this component from the window that opens (if you have not already done so) by following the wizard that you see on the screen.

After installing and starting 3D Combine on your PC, you need to load the 2D video you want to make three dimensional. Then click on the menu Guides, select the voice 2D to 3D video and then automatically to use the automatic conversion tool. In the instruction window that appears on the screen, click on the button OK and then upload the file related to the 2D video you want to transform into 3D.

In the window Select Parametr that opens after selecting the video to load, select the output quality of the video by choosing from the options Quick (low quality), H (high quality) or Frameshifting (changeable) and press on OK. Then click on the button OK and proceed with the last steps: select the desired output format from the drop-down menu (eg. Parallel o Color Anaglyph) and then click Save Video to complete the conversion procedure. Now all you have to do is wait for the movie to be processed, put on your 3D glasses and enjoy watching!

    3D Video Converter (Windows)

Another solution that I invite you to try if you want to create a 3D movie is 3D Video Converter: as the name of the program suggests, it is a video converter for Windows that is really very easy to use thanks to an essential and well-structured interface. This software is also for a fee: you can download the free trial version, in which a watermark is applied to your work and then decide whether or not to purchase the license for the program, which costs $ 14,95.

To download 3D Video Converter on your PC, first connect to the program website, click on the link DOWNLOAD located at the top right and, once the installation package has been downloaded, open the file .exe just got it. Then click on the button Yes and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup: then select the language you prefer from the appropriate drop-down menu (eg. English), presses the button OK, Then Next, put the check mark on the item I accept the agreement, still presses on Next per due volte di segito e poi su Finish.

Caution: before explaining how to use 3D Video Converter, I recommend that you create a backup copy of the movies you want to feed with 3D Video Converter, as the changes will be made directly to the original video.

After installing and starting 3D Video Converter, press the icon of clapperboard and select the 2D video you want to convert to 3D or directly drag its thumbnail inside the area Drop a video file here to convert it to 3D. Then select one of the options available in the drop-down menu on the left (eg. Anaglyph) to choose the type of conversion you want to perform and then press the button Preview, so as to preview the final result and possibly make the necessary corrections using the sliders Shift e Depth (which are used to adjust the applied 3D effect).

As soon as you are satisfied with the result, press the blue button CONVERT located on the right of the main window of 3D Video Converter, wait for the movie to be processed and then press on OK to close the message in which you are told that the operation was successful.

Blender (Windows / macOS / Linux)

Would you like to try your hand at making a 3D animated film? Blender is one of the best solutions that can do for you: it is a free and open source program that has very little to envy to its expensive commercial counterparts. It is available for both Windows and macOS and Linux.

To download Blender on your computer, connect to the program's website and click on the green button Download Blender located in the center of the page. When the download is complete, if you use Windows, open the file . MSI just downloaded and, in the window that opens, click the button Next. Then put the check mark on the item I accept the terms in the License Agreement, still presses on Next per due volte di segito e poi su install, Yes e Finish.

If you use a Macinstead, open the package .dmg just downloaded, drag the folder icon Blender in the folder Applications macOS, then open the folder where the program is located, right-click on the Blender icon and select the item apri from the menu that opens (this operation must be done only at the first start of the software to "override" the restrictions applied by Apple to software from non-certified sources).

After you have installed and started Blender on your computer, you can start drawing the characters of your 3D animated movie. As you can see, the software interface is divided into three main blocks: the multifunction menu at the top, the central screen which constitutes the work area in which to create and modify 3D objects and the panel located at the bottom with all the tools to create and modify them.

If you've used other 3D modeling software in the past, you won't have the slightest problem using Blender. If, on the other hand, you are not very familiar with this kind of programs and in this case with Blender, take a look at the section dedicated to video tutorials that illustrate its features. You will see, with a little effort and practice, you will have no problem using this amazing software to make your own 3D animated movies.

    Autodesk Maya (Windows / macOS)

Another software that I recommend you to try to create 3D animated movies is Autodesk Maya: This is a paid program that you can test for free for a 30-day trial period. It is one of the most popular solutions in the field of 3D cinematography, thanks to its well-organized interface and the wide support for third-party plugins that extend its functionality. Let's find out how to install it and how to best use it.

Before guiding you in the installation of the program, I would like to tell you that the estimated weight of the package is about 4GB, which means that to proceed with the download you must have enough disk space and you must have an adequate Internet connection, so not to have problems. To install Maya, then connected to this page of the Autodesk site, presses the green button Download the free trial version, read the warnings given in the box that appears on the screen, press the button NEXT, select from the appropriate drop-down menu the use you intend to make of the software, indicate through the other drop-down menus the operating system and language where you want to install the program (unfortunately it is not available in your language) and presses the button once again NEXT.

On the page that opens, you will be asked to log in to your Autodesk account or to create one: if you do not have an Autodesk account, click on the link Create an account, fill out the registration form that appears on the screen, press the button Create account and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the registration.

Once logged in, accept the terms of use of Autodesk services, press the button Continue, fill in the fields Company name, Postal code, Telephone etc. indicating the requested information and, finally, presses the button Begin download to download the program installation package. Once the download is complete, open the installation package you obtained and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup.

It was used Windowsfor example, open the file .exe just unloaded, presses the button Yes and, in the window that opens, presses the button install, put the check mark on the item I Acceptpiggy back his Next and then install e Launch Now.

A Macinstead, open the package .dmg just downloaded, drag the Maya icon into the folder Applications macOS and then right-click on the program icon and select the item apri from the menu that appears, so as to "bypass" the restrictions applied by Apple to non-certified developers (this operation is only necessary at the first start of the software). In the Maya welcome window, click on the button Continue, put the check mark on the item I Accept, still presses the button Continue, select the volume in which to install the program (eg. Macintosh HD), presses the button again Continue twice in a row, enter the Mac administration password, press on OK e Done.

After installing and starting Maya, presses the link start a trial present in its main window and log in to your Autodesk account by filling in the login fields and, once logged in, follow the instructions on the screen to set up the two-step verification or click on the link Remind me later to postpone this action.

Now you can finally create your 3D movie using the advanced tools provided by Autodesk Maya. At first glance the program interface may seem somewhat complicated to use, but in reality it is neat and well structured: in the center you can find the work grid in which you will see the preview of the characters and 3D objects you will create, in the sidebar located on the left there are the tools through which to move, resize and shape objects, while at the top you can find the tabs through which to move between the various sets of tools available.

Since Maya can be used for multiple 3D graphics jobs, I still suggest you set the interface display optimized for this kind of work by selecting the item Animation from the drop-down menu located at the top right (next to your username): this will make your work with this program considerably easier.

Since this is a software used in a professional environment by experts in the three-dimensional film industry, I recommend that you consult the guides on the Autodesk website aimed at helping users who are approaching Maya for the first time.

Other useful material for making a 3D film

If you want to venture into the world of 3D cinematography, in addition to the software I told you about in the previous lines, you may need to find other useful material to create quality movies and to edit them better. For example, you may be tempted to buy a professional video camera or a new PC that is powerful enough, especially if you want to make 3D animated movies.

Before rushing to buy a professional video camera or a new computer, however, take a look at the buying guides that I have just linked to you, in order to make wise purchases. In these insights you can find very useful tips to understand which are the devices that can actually meet your needs and avoid making a wrong purchase.
