    How to create a survey on Google Forms

    Google Forms is the first solution you can consider for create a survey on Google. It is a free service that allows you to create various types of forms and, after sharing them with other people, to automatically collect the results and view them easily.

    To carry out a survey with Google Forms from computer, connected to the main page of the service and, if you have not already done so, log in with your Google account: then select theGoogle account of your interest (or press on the item Use an altro account if the account you intend to use is not listed on the screen Scegli an account), enter the Password in the ready field and click on the button NEXT.



    At this point, I premi sulla voce Template gallery and consider if there is a ready-to-use template available that suits your needs. If, on the other hand, you want to create a survey from scratch, click on the option Empty and, first, enter its title and description in the fields Untitled module e Module description.

    Once this is done, enter the first question of the survey in the field Untitled question, enter the first answer option in the field 1 option and press on the item Add option, to add more response options. If, on the other hand, you want to set a type of answer other than the multiple choice one (which is set by default), click on the item Multiple choice and, using the appropriate drop-down menu, choose one of the other available answer options among Short answer, Paragraph, Check boxes, Drop-down list etc.



    Using the tools visible in the box on the right, for each question you can also add any images (by clicking on the landscape) and videos (by pressing the ▶ ︎ button), import questions from other modules (by clicking on the freccia inside a quadrato) and create new sections within the module (by clicking on the icon two rectangles).

    To add a new question, click the button instead + and repeat the procedure just described. Alternatively, if you want to keep the style of a previously created question, you can duplicate it by clicking on the option Duplicate (l'icona dei two overlapping squares) located at the bottom. Also, by moving the lever next to the item Obligatory da OFF a ON, you can make the answer mandatory for the selected question, while to delete it you can click on the icon basket.

    After adding the questions of your interest and any answer options, you can move on to customize the survey by changing its graphical appearance. To do this, click on the item Customize theme (l'icona della palette, top right) and act in the sections Heading, Theme color, Background color e Font style, to add any image to use in the survey header and customize the colors and font of the text.

    By clicking, instead, on the icon of the rotella d'ingranaggio located at the top right you can manage the module settings and add further customizations, such as setting a confirmation message for each response entered by users.


    Once the survey has been created and all the changes of interest to you have been applied, click on theeye, to preview it. If the final result is to your liking, click on the button Send and, if you wish to email it to the people of your interest, enter the various email addresses in the field Email and press pulsating Send.


    Alternatively, by selecting the tabs Link (l'icona della chain) is Embed HTML (the icon ""), you can copy the form link or get the HTML code that allows you to embed the survey in question on your website. To learn more, I leave you to my guide on how to create Google forms.

    At any time, by connecting to the main Google Forms page with your Google account, you can apply further changes to the survey and, above all, view its responses. To do this, find the form of your interest in the section Recent modules, click on it and, in the new open page, select the item Risposte, to view all the answers provided by the people who filled out the survey.

    By clicking on the icon of three dots and selecting the option Download responses (.csv) from the menu that is proposed to you, you can download the answers in the form of a CSV file, while to print them you can choose the option Print all responses. To stop collecting responses, instead, move the lever relative to the item Accept reply da ON a OFF. To learn more, you can take a look at my tutorial on how to see the answers on Google Forms.


    If you prefer to create a survey from smartphones and tablets, you should know that Google Forms is not available as an application. However, you can use the browser installed on your device (eg. Chrome your android e Safari on iPhone / iPad) and follow the instructions I gave you in the previous lines of this guide to create a new survey with Google Forms from your computer.

    If, on the other hand, you want to customize a previously created form or view its responses, you can use the Google Drive for Android and iPhone / iPad devices. After starting the app in question and logging into your Google account, press on the item Fillet located in the bottom menu and press on module of your interest, to open it with the browser installed on your device.


    How to create a survey on Google Surveys

    Google Surveys is another service you can use to create a survey with Google, especially if your intention is to do market research.

    The platform in question allows you to create a survey and obtain detailed results in a few hours, with the possibility of directing questions to the desired audience. You must know, however, that it is a paid tool (€ 0,09 per response) and the total cost to carry out a survey varies depending on the questions created and the number of responses you wish to receive.

    To create a new survey from computer, therefore connected to the main page of Google Surveys, log in with your Google account and click on the button Continue. On the screen Email preferences, set your preferences, press the button NEXT e clicca sull'opzione View the terms of service. Once this is done, put the check mark next to the item Accept e premi sui pulsnti Send e Start, to access the main Google Surveys screen.

    At this point, click on your button +, at the bottom right, to create a new survey and enter its name in the field Survey name. Then specify the text of the first question in the appropriate field and press on the relative icon of the pencil, to choose the type of question by selecting one of the options available from Single answer question, Two options with image, Multiple choice, Rating scale, Open question etc.

    If necessary for the chosen option, enter the answers of your interest in the field Enter response text and, in section Question options, customize the various options available (eg you can choose the order in which the answers are displayed).

    Complete the creation of the first question, if you want to add more questions, click on the button +, choose the type of question in the screen Select a question format and press pulsating Add question. Then add any answers and repeat the process for all the questions you intend to include in your survey.

    After that, select the tab Choose the audience and put the check mark next to the option of your interest between General population (the survey is shown on all sites in the Google Surveys publisher network and viewed by a set of visitors browsing from computers and mobile devices) and Android smartphone users (The survey is viewed by all people who have downloaded the Google Opinion Rewards app on their Android device.)

    In both cases, specify the type of audience you prefer to fill out the survey by indicating the country of residence and, if available for the option previously chosen, also the age range language and generate d'appartenenza.

    Then press the button Confirmation, set the frequency with which to propose your survey (Once, Every week, Every two weeks, Every month e All quarters) and specify the number of responses you want to receive in the field Number of responses required (minimum 5). On this screen, in the left sidebar, you can also view the total cost of the survey which increases and decreases based on the number of responses you have indicated.

    At this point, click on your button The survey begins, enter the required payment information on the screen Enter your payment information and press pulsating Buy Now, to make the payment and start your survey.

    By accessing the main Google Surveys screen and selecting the option Surveys in progress, you can view all surveys created and not yet finished. By pressing, instead, on the item Surveys completed, you can find the data collected for each completed survey. More info here.

    Finally, I would like to point out that Google Surveys is not available in the form of an application for smartphones and tablets. If you do not have a computer available, you can still create a new survey and monitor the data using the browser installed on your mobile device.
