PosteRazor (Windows / Mac / Linux)

Let's start this excursus through the resources to create posters from PostRazor, a free software for Windows and Mac (as well as for Linux), of an open source nature and very easy to use. It allows you to generate posters starting from a photo in just five steps, offering a good margin of customization as regards borders, positioning, etc. In short, try it now and you will see that you will not regret it.

To use it, first of all visit the software download page, then click on the link for the operating system you are using and wait a few moments for the download of the program installation file to start.

When the download is complete, open the .exe file obtained, press on Yes / Run, its OK and NEXT and accepts the terms of use of the software by ticking the appropriate box. Then click on NEXT two more times and press on end. If you are using a Mac instead, open the .dmg package obtained and drag the program icon into the folder Applications of macOS. Then right click on it, choose apri from the menu that appears and confirms your willingness to start the program in order to circumvent the limitations imposed by Apple against unauthorized developers.

Now that you see the PosteRazor window on your desktop, click on the button with the gialla poster placed on the side and choose the photo you want to use to create the poster. Alternatively, drag the image directly into the PosterRazor window. Then click on the button Following at the bottom right to go to the next step.

Now, select the paper size you intend to use from the drop-down menu at the top or set any values 鈥嬧媌y clicking on the tab custom and adjusting the available parameters, then press the button Following bottom right. Therefore, define the size of the overlapping, that of the image and of its alignment by switching between one step and the next, always by clicking on the button Following.

Finally, press the button with the floppy disk which is located at the top of the program window in order to save the poster in PDF format and view it in the appropriate reader from which you can print it. Et voila!

    The Rasterbator (Windows)

Are you using a PC with Windows installed and are you looking for a valid alternate to the above program? Then try now The Rasterbator and you will see that you will not regret it. It is a no-cost software, very easy to use, which does not require installation that allows you to create large posters, on multiple sheets, starting from an image of your choice. It is very easy to use but requires at least .NET Framework 1.1 to be installed on your computer to work.

To use it, first download it by connecting to its download page and clicking on the link Grid Bator Standalone 1.21 that you find at the top. At the end of the download, extract the archive obtained in any folder on your computer and double-click on the .exe file inside it to start the software.

In the first window that opens, select citt脿n (city) in the drop-down menu and then click the button Proceed. Now, you need to select the image to use as a poster: click on the button Select ..., search for it in the folders on your computer, double-click on it and click on the button Proceed.

Now indicate the size of the sheets you want to use. If the ones you are going to use are "classic" A4 sheets, you can leave everything as it is, taking care to adjust only the orientation of the poster, choosing between ritratto (ie vertical) or landscape (ie horizontal) via the appropriate menu on the right and then pressing on Proceed. If you have specific needs, you can first choose which standard size sheets to use or you can set a custom size yourself.

At this point, focus your attention on the voice sheets, which indicates the number of sheets to be printed and used to reassemble the poster. As the number of sheets varies, the size of the poster varies, which is indicated next to the item Image size to be obtained:. As soon as you have determined the size of your poster, click on the button Proceed.

In the window that opens, indicate the size in millimeters of the points that will draw the poster in Dimension. The smaller the size, the higher the precision. Therefore, I recommend that you enter a very small value. With the voice Color instead you can decide whether to make the poster in one color (Black/Custom color) or multi-color (Multi-color). Then press on Proceed to go to the next step.

Now decide where to save the PDF document to print containing the various pieces of the poster. To do this, click the button Select ... and open the folder in which to save the poster then press the button Grid bizza! located at the bottom of the program window.

When the process is complete, click the button Close the application. All you have to do is print the PDF document with the various pieces of the poster and put it back together. Have fun!

Please note: If you see an error message when you try to install the program, start it in compatibility mode with Windows XP. To do this, right-click on The Rasterbator icon that you find in the downloaded compressed archive, choose Property from the menu that opens and then the tab Compatibility. Check the box next to the item Run the program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the menu that opens. Then click on Apply and then OK.

    Block Posters (Online)

If you do not want or cannot download new programs on your computer, to create posters you can rely on the use of some special online services, as in the case of the excellent Block Posters. Similarly to the above programs, it allows you to select a photo to be transformed into a poster and then print it on multiple sheets to create the composition, all for free (except for some paid features) and directly from the browser window.

You ask me how is it used? I'll explain it to you immediately. To begin with, connected to the home page of the service and click on the button GET STARTED that you find in the center and then presses the button Upload your image and select the photographer you want to use to create the poster.

Once the upload is complete, use the settings you find in the corresponding section Customize your poster to customize the print of your poster. So use the menu next to the wording My poster should be ... to define on how many pages to print, choose the orientation of the poster, the paper size and whether to include borders or not.

If desired, it is also possible to remove the watermark applied to the poster by ticking the appropriate box but it is a Premium function, for a fee. If you need to, you can also crop the photo you uploaded by clicking the button Cross image present on the left, is its preview, and then adjusting the cropping area.

Finally, check the box next to the item I have read and accept the Terms of Service in order to accept the terms of use of the service, click on the button Create my poster! at the bottom and then on the button Download your poster! on the next page to download the PDF file to your computer with all the various parts of the poster to print and reassemble.

    DesignCap (online)

Another good online service you can turn to for poster design is DesignCap. It is free and provides a whole series of templates useful for the purpose in question and ready to use but editable in all respects, both as regards the image to be printed and any writings and colors on imprinted. It therefore offers more customization margin than the resources already mentioned but, unfortunately, does not integrate a special option to print on multiple pages.

To serve, connected to the home page of the service and click on the button Make a Free Poter that you find in the center then select the template that most attracts you among those on the left (if you want, you can help you choose with the menu at the top by selecting the reference category). Click more on the item Photo that you find on the left, up Add Photo and select the photo saved on your computer that you want to add to the poster. If the image you want to use is on Facebook or online, you can also upload it directly from there, by clicking on the relevant button at the top.

Once the photo is uploaded, drag it onto the poster to add it to it or to replace the one of the selected template and adjust its properties as you see fit using the menu on the right.

Now, modify any other elements already present on the poster by clicking on them and then using the menu you see appear. If, on the other hand, you want to add other elements of your choice, such as writings and clipart, click on the items respectively Text e Clipart on the left, select the item you prefer, drag it onto the poster and click on it to make any customizations.

Pressing on the voice instead BKGround, which you always find on the left, you can choose a color or texture for the background of the poster you are creating.

Once the changes are complete, click on the button with the floppy disk at the top to save it on the computer after selecting the image format and size or print it directly by clicking on the button with the printer that you find next to it.

    Alternative solutions

If the cartridges of your printer are not sufficiently charged and therefore you cannot print the personalized poster yourself or if you still prefer to print professionally but you do not have the means to do so, instead of taking advantage of the above resources you can rely on some special Web services used for the purpose. You ask me which ones? Well, for example the ones I told you about in my article on how to print a poster.

To use it, all you have to do is visit the website of the reference service, upload the photo you want to use to create the poster, apply any customizations relating to the print format, the type of paper, etc. and confirm everything. You will then receive the poster directly at your home, ready to be placed on the side. Beautiful, is not it?

If, on the other hand, the aforementioned resources have not convinced you because instead of acting as a computer you prefer to do everything from mobile, you can try to take a look at my post on apps to create posters through which I have proceeded to indicate applications that can also prove useful. for creating posters.
